Meg is an 8-month-old Border Collie puppy who was unfortunately hit by a car in September. She was seen by our vet Maegan, who gave her pain relief and stabilised her before taking x-rays to assess her injuries. Meg had some grazes to her front left leg but her most significant injury was a severely diplaced fracture of her left femur. Her x-rays were assessed by our orthopaedic vet, Gary. He operated on her to re-align the broken bone and placed a metal plate and screws to stabilise the fracture. Meg stayed in on pain relief overnight after her operation and was sent home to her owners the following day on pain relief and antibiotics to prevent infection fo the surgical site. She was strictly cage rested for six weeks following surgery to ensure proper healing of the bone. After this she was given the all clear to gradually increase her exercise over several more weeks. We all grew rather attached to her during her stay, as you can see from the below picture of nurse Tegan and vet Alicia giving her cuddles at one of her post op checks!
